GENERAL

SPECIFICATION.

The Railway to be culstructed as a single line and of 4 feet

84 inches gauge.

Sufficient land to be acquired in the first instance to provide for doubling the line hereafter when the exigencies of traffic demand it, There are to be passing places at suitable intervals and the tracks to be spaced 12 ft. d ias. centre to centre

at such passing places.

The rails to be of steel, ilat rooted and to weigh not leas than 85 lbs per yard with suitable Fishplates weighing about 39 los per pair and having 4 bolts, luts, etc, at sacr joint weighing

about 30 oz. each.

Good timber sleepers measuring ut less than 9 las. X 5 in.

ins. long or Jarran or other suitable wood to be used.

There are to be not less than 2,000 sleepers per mile.

The line is to be su ficiently ballasted throughout with

broken stone ur good gravel ballast.

The gradients and curves are to be the best possible attain-

able having regard to the uifficult country in the vicinity of

Kowloon.

The standard width for a single line on the top of an evank-

went at formation level to be 17 ft. o ins, add at the bottom of

cutting 25 ft. 6 ins., the latter innlusive of sice drains.
